Check out this great Spring Clean Guide by Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There are lots of great tips for sprucing things up for spring from the inside out!
Andrea and I decided to choose Day 12 together and it was an easy pick. The most-used appliance in our kitchens. It is definitely a splurge at $449 but it really is worth it. Vitamix also sells reconditioned mixers with the same warranty for a bit less money. I had been dreaming of a Vitamixer for a couple of years when my husband surprised me with it on Easter morning 7 years ago. I hate to gush, but it really is amazing. With almost daily use, it still works as well as it did the first day I used it. I admit that I use it mostly for smoothies but it is capable of much more…soups, dips, dressings, etc. It comes with a dvd full of uses and when you see it crush an avocado pit in 5 seconds flat, well, you can’t help but be impressed. I am sipping my spinach and blackberry smoothie as I write this and there are no signs of the tiny blackberry seeds because they have been crushed into oblivion. The Vitamix really allows you to benefit from all the nutrients of your ingredients by making them so easily digested.
In closing I want to say what a joy it has been writing this blog and connecting with you, our readers, in the last couple of months. I am so grateful to all of you who check us out every day and those who leave their comments. It is a thrill for me to bump into someone in the grocery store who is out buying ingredients for a recipe we have posted. We are looking forward to reaching many more friends in the new year with healthy tips for a blissful life. We are going to enjoy the holiday with our families but we will be back on January 1st with thoughts on making 2012 your best ever. I hope you will join us!
Ecotools by Alicia Silverstone
Ecotools is a line of beauty and bathing products created by Alicia Silverstone that are earth-friendly in its materials and packaging. My favorite is the small cosmetics bag. The brushes are made with bamboo handles, recycled aluminum ferrules and 100% cruelty free bristles. It is the perfect size to keep your make-up, a few necessities and brushes all together in one place. It fits nicely in a tote, carry on or gym bag without taking up to much extra space. Alicia’s message is “Live beautifully – stay kind to yourself and the earth.” It is important to be kind to yourself and remember you are beauty-full.
I bought my bag at Target but you can also visit www.eco-tools.com for a list of retailers.
Merry Christmas – Andrea
Pacifica Solid Perfume
I love this stuff! I’m sensitive to most perfumes, it either makes me sneeze or my neck breaks out in little bumps, but Pacifica doesn’t irritate at all. Tiny little tins of the most amazing all-natural scents. No parabens or phthalates, just a hint of scent inspired by nature. I love the tin too, no chance of it spilling into my make-up drawer and it’s easy to throw in my purse for travel. I’m into the Waikiki Pikake right now….jasmine and sandalwood, and the Brazilian Mango Grapefruit is perfect for summer. The hardest part is deciding what scent to buy next, but at $9.00 a tin I might pick out a few! Just a hint to the husbands…they make a great stocking stuffer:)
Pacifica is available at Sephora, Whole Foods, or online at the link below. Their candles are awesome too!
Lululemon Groove Pant
The last thing I want to be doing while I am teaching a pilates or yoga class is adjusting, hiking up or exposing my assets because of my clothing. The Lululemon Groove Pant is my favorite because it stretches and stays with me through any movement. I have a pair that I have worn and washed over 100 times this year and they still look and fit as great as they did the first time I tried them on. Let’s face it, at $98.00 a pop they are a little pricey but well worth the money. They are even cute enough to wear out after class to run errands or have lunch with a friend. www.lululemon.com
These are my favorite yoga, pilates, “lounge around” pants. On the days I don’t have time to come home after class to shower and get all spiffed up, these are great to run errands in as well. They are super comfortable, cute, and the length is perfect for those of us that are vertically challenged 🙂 I prefer the black but they come in lots of great colors. One of my yoga instructors says they are her favorite airplane pants because they never wrinkle. Pair with a tee and little cardigan and you are good to go!
We all know the importance of drinking water throughout the day but sometimes it is easier said than done. Sometimes I forget to drink anything at all. I love this Britta Water Pitcher-Chrome because it is a constant reminder to me that I need to be drinking more water. I fill it constantly and leave it next to my sink. It matches my kitchen appliances so I don’t mind it sitting out on the counter. I do have a water filtration system on the inside of my refrigerator but this just seems to work better for my family and the kids aren’t standing in front of the fridge with the door open while they are filling up their water bottles. This pitcher also has an indicator on the lid that allows you see the status of your filter and when it is time to get a new one. I bought mine at Target sometime this spring and I use it every day. The price is around $29.00. www.target.com
