Non-dairy creamer is NOT a good thing! It is actually pretty gross. I posted a while back about my favorite cup of coffee with agave syrup and almond milk. At a baby shower a few weeks ago I was asked a lot about the almond milk: “Really?” and “Is it better for you than soy?” and “Would you actually sit down with a cookie and ALMOND milk, as opposed to cow’s milk?” My answer to all of the above is a definitive “YES!” But here’s the thing — if almond milk is too much of a stretch for you, at the very least, PLEASE get the non-dairy creamer out of your fridge and out of your arteries! I used to love the stuff (hazelnut was my favorite), and I figured, hey, a tablespoon or two a day isn’t going to kill me. The problem is this: any amount of hydrogenated fat going into your body is too much.
Partially hydrogenated soybean oil acts as a poison in your system, interfering with the body’s metabolic processes. MS, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s have all been linked to partially hydrogenated oil consumption. Why bother with the risk of any of those terrible diseases? Fat-free half ‘n half, as seen above, is a much better option if you can’t make the leap quite yet to the options we’ve discussed before (almond, rice, hemp, soy, coconut..the list gets longer all the time!). Take baby steps and pretty soon you’ll wonder how you ever lived without almond milk in your coffee, I promise! Make a simple switch, live a healthier life:)
Peace and greens,
